Visualising life cycle impacts of onshore wind energy siting on bird diversity

Northwind partner NINA has just launched the innovative online application AviSite that allows users to assess potential impacts onshore wind energy development has on birdlife in Norway in an interactive manner. “Streamlining the onshore development process while reducing unnecessary harm to birdlife will give industry and authorities increased predictability regarding the siting of future wind power plants and minimised reputational and financial risk. The AviSite tool may support developers as well as consenting and environmental authorities in scoping out potential sites for development with low levels of conflict with birdlife per kWh produced”, says senior research scientist Roel May.
