Offshore wind featured on SINTEF podcast

SINTEF Chief Scientist John Olav Tande is the guest of podcast host Aksel Faanes Persson this week, talking about the possibilities and challenges linked to offshore wind.

Tande speaks about the EU’s objective of installing 300 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050, and about the three keys to success in getting there. Work has to be done on three fronts simultaneously, he says: building offshore wind farms, addressing research challenges and creating the necessary innovations for the development and operation of offshore wind projects. In addition, he emphasizes, development must take into account other stakeholders, and measures must be taken to minimise environmental impact as much as possible.

The podcast is also full of interesting little information nuggets about offshore wind. Did you know for example that with a single rotation of its blades, a large offshore wind turbine can generate enough electricity to power an average home for a whole day?
