NW at NTNU’s FME conference

NorthWind was represented at the Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research conference, gathering all FMEs as part of partner organisation NTNU’s Energy Transition Week.

The session NorthWind was involved in was titled “Scaling up renewable energy production“. The overarching topic was how science and industry can respond to last year’s call to action by the Norwegian Energy Commission: “More of everything, faster”. Two other FMEs were involved in this session, HydroCen (hydropower) and SuSolTech (solar energy).

Also participating were Statnett, NHO (The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise) an NorthWind partner organisation Statkraft.

NorthWind director John Olav Tande
NorthWind director John Olav Tande presented the Centre, and summarised current research priorities in the field of offshore wind energy.

Discussions touched on the need for scaling up renewable energy production, the technologies that can help us get there, balancing energy production with sustainability and public acceptance, and navigating the international energy landscape in response to major initiatives such as the US Inflation Reduction Act and China’s enormous renewables push.
