Norway’s offshore wind industry launches new strategy

Norway’s Offshore wind collaboration forum (Samarbeidsforum for havvind) just lauched a three-part report outlining recommendations and a proposed roadmap for industrial and technological development in the field of offshore wind.

The trilogy is titled From light breeze to strong gale (Fra laber bris til stiv kuling). It was prepared through a process led by Norsk Industri, with participants from over 50 Norwegians organisations. Many of these organisations are NorthWind partners.

Among its many recommendations, the three-part report advocates for a predictable regulatory framework, an efficient auction process and risk-balancing contract types. Standardisation achieved through a value chain-wide collaboration is also touted as a way to both scale up production and reduce costs. On the research, innovation and education side, the report calls for the establishment of a European Centre of Excellence for offshore wind.

The report was prepared by the Forum’s working group on industrial and technological development. Two other working groups are active in the forum: one about coexistence and another about infrastructure and grid. The Offshore wind collaboration forum was created by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in 2021/2022, to consolidate, enhance and promote the offshore wind sector in Norway.
