NINA to study wind energy in the natural and social environment of Europe

NorthWind research partner NINA has secured funding for an R&D project funded through the EU Horizon Europe programme. The project called WENDY will unravel the factors triggering social acceptance of wind farms through an in-depth analysis from societal, environmental and technological perspectives. Jointly with wind energy communities, among them Norwegian Offshore Wind Cluster, the project will through practical solutions and guidelines boost energy citizenship and stewardship. WENDY consists of 9 partners from 6 countries and is coordinated by CIRCE in Spain.

– Among other things, the project will produce a spatial multi-criteria planning tool to identify optimal turbine siting with the minimum environmental impact and highest social acceptance, says NINA Senior Research Scientist Roel May.

WENDY will complement research to be executed as part of NorthWind’s work package 5: Sustainable wind development.
