The first initiative launched as part of the Norwegian government’s export reform Hele Norge eksporterer (the whole of Norway exports) has offshore wind as its focus.
The initiative is a public-private partnership, where NHO (Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise) and LO (Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions) play a central role together with the government. The idea is to help Norwegian companies take a larger share of the global offshore wind market.
The Norwegian offshore wind industry has already reported strong growth in 2022, in large part because of the construction of the Hywind Tampen offshore floating wind farm. By taking 10% of the global market, Norway could generate export revenues of upwards of 85 billion NOK by 2030, according to Ole Erik Almlid, Chief Executive Officer of NHO.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry will set aside between 50 and 90 million NOK to be used on the offshore wind initiative by the end of 2023, based on the recommendations laid out by the National Export Council (Nasjonalt Exportråd) in a recent report.
“The National Export Council came with excellent recommendations,” says NorthWind director John Olav Tande. “It recognises the fact that a concerted effort is needed for Norway to take its share of the export market for offshore wind-related technology and services. A small investment will reap enormous benefits down the road.”
