IKEA’s investment company Ingka and Japan’s leading energy supplier Kansai Electric Power Company have joined NorthWind network partner Odfjell Oceanwind and Source Galileo in the UtsiraVIND consortium. Together, the consortium is competing for a licence to implement a floating offshore wind farm off the coast of Norway, in an area known as Utsira Nord.
Utsira Nord has been divided into three project areas, with depths between 180 and 280 metres. UtsiraVIND is applying for an area 32 kilometres offshore, with the aim of contributing a total of 1.5 GW of floating wind energy per year.
The competition was announced by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy on 29 March 2023, with a deadline of 1 September 2023. Project areas are due to be allocated in December 2023.
