European wind energy community launches new research programme

Partners of EERA JP Wind have just launched the NeWindEERA programme, which seeks to provide a comprehensive new research framework designed to advance the European wind energy sector towards 2050.

The research agenda addresses key areas under six main themes:

  1. Industrialisation, scale-up and competitiveness
  2. Optimisation and further digitalisation of operation and maintenance
  3. Wind energy system integration
  4. Sustainability and circularity
  5. Skills, acceptability and coexistence
  6. Cross-cutting research themes

The document presents what it calls The three pillars of European wind energy research and innovation. These pillars are the ETIP Wind Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, which outlines shorter term R&I priorities for the next three years; The NeWindEERA Research Programme, with Medium and longer-term R&I priorities for 2035 and 2050 targets; and the European Centre of Excellence for Wind Energy – the emerging framework that will carry the European wind energy research community on the journey.
